46 million credit cards hacked by hackers
More than 45 million customers shopping in the UK and North America, the company owned by TJX, may become victims of fraudsters who hacked the database of credit card customers.
Representatives of TJX confirmed that hackers stole information on 45.6 million credit cards used in the interval between 31 December 2002 and 23 November 2003. How much sensitive information disappeared on transactions performed with 24 Nov., 2003 to 28 June 2004, the company is unknown.
Stealing customer information in the possession of 2500 stores TJX has become the biggest crime of its kind in the world. On Thursday the company admitted hacking into a computer system that occurred back in July 2005 and remained unnoticed by one and a half years. With 18 Dec, 2006 TJX is aware of the burglary, but details on the incident released only now.
According to the company, the names of the owners of credit cards whose data was abducted hackers are not installed. Nevertheless, the banks already have preliminary evidence of possible abuse of stolen information. As the representative of Visa, at risk are all the cards, which take Stores TJX. Police believed that hackers to resell the data to other credit card fraudsters.
